...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Life threatening rip currents expected due to breaking waves of up to around 6-7 feet. * WHERE...Northwest to northeast beaches of Puerto Rico including San Juan and vicinity and Culebra beaches. * WHEN...Through Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.

There is a high risk of rip currents. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and signs. If you become caught in a rip current, yell for help. Remain calm, do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for help. If you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. Motorists should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to hydroplaning.

...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM AST THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of Puerto Rico, including the following municipalities, Arroyo, Guayama and Salinas. * WHEN...Until 1000 PM AST. * IMPACTS...Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 747 PM AST, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain in the advisory area. Doppler radar confirmed the heavy rain. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
